Adjective/Verb ending in vowel + -ㄹ 수밖에 없다:
비싸다 -- 비쌀 수밖에 없다 = be expected to be expensive
사다 -- 살 수밖에 없다 = have no choice but to buy
포기하다 -- 포기할 수밖에 없다 = have no choice but to give up
거절하다 -- 거절할 수 밖에 없어 = have no choice but to refuse
자신이다 -- 자신일 수 밖에 없다 = only be what I am
Adjective/Verb ending in ㄹ + 수밖에 없다:
열다 -- 열 수밖에 없다 = have no choice but to open
달다 -- 달 수밖에 앖다 = be expected to be sweet
Adjective/Verb ending in consonant + 을 수밖에 없다:
많다 -- 많을 수밖에 없다 = be expected to be many
입다 -- 입을 수밖에 없다 = have no choice but to wear
*어렵다 -- 어려울 수밖에 없다 = be expected to be difficult
그럴 수밖에 없다 = That can’t be helped / It’s expected to be that way.
Examples:
1. 시간이 없어서 택시를 탈 수밖에 없어요.
Since we don’t have time, we have no choice but to catch a taxi.
2. 현금이 없어서 카드로 계산 할 수밖에 없었다.
Since I don’t have cash, I have no choice but to pay by card.
3. 그의 제안은 너무 불공정하여 거부할 수밖에 없어요.
His offer is quite unfair so that I have no choice but to refuse.
4. 나는 그걸 좋아하지 않지만 상황이 그럴 수밖에 없다.
I don't like it but that's the situation.
5. 이 가게에서는 신용카드 안 된다고 하니까 현금으로 낼 수밖에 없네요.
Since we don’t have time, we have no choice but to catch a taxi.
