Usage:
- Express the reason for going or coming to a place to performance an action, in which the action is often stated first and the place comes after the action = go/come (to somewhere) do something
- Only movement verbs such as 가다, 오다, and 다니다 are used after -(으)러:
E.g., -(으)러 가다, -(으)러 오다, -(으)러 다니다
- Can’t use movement verbs before -(으)러: 가다, 오다, 올라가다, 내려가다, 들어가다, 나가다, 여행하다, and 이사하다.
Verb ending in a vowel or ㄹ + -러 가다/오다:
사다 → 사러 가다/오다
배우다 → 배우러 가다/오다
보다 → 보러 가다/오다
*놀다 → 놀러 가다/오다
*살다 → 살러 가다/오다
Verb ending in a consonant + -으러 가다/오다:
먹다 → 먹으러 가다/오다
찾다 → 찾으러 가다/오다
*듣다 → 들으러 가다/오다
*짓다 → 지으러 가다/오다
*돕다 → 도우러 가다/오다
Examples
1. 옷을 사러 동대문 시장에 가요.
I am going to Dongdaemun market to buy clothes.
2. 한국 친구를 만나러 한국에 왔어요.
I came to Korea to meet my Korean friend.
3. 은행에 돈을 찾으러 가요.
I am going to the bank to withdraw some money.
4. 책을 읽으러 도서관에 가요.
I go to library to read books.
5. (식당에) 점심을 먹으러 갈 거예요.
I am going to have a lunch.
6. 새로운 집에 이사했어요?
- 네, 지난주에 했어요. 주말에 우리 집에 놀러 오세요.
Did you move to a new house?
- Yes, I move last week. Please come to visit our home in weekend.
7. 어떻게 오셨습니까?
- 사장님을 만나러 왔습니다.
What brought you here?
- I came to meet the boss.
8. 편지를 부치러 우체국에 갑니다.
I go to post office to send a letter.

I go to the embassy to get my visa.
